Who is Thecla?

I’m a proud Aboriginal year 10 student boarding at St. Philip’s College in Alice Springs. I have an apprenticeship working at CAAMA radio and studying  Certificate II in Screen and Media. I work on wednesdays and Thursdays at CAAMA, sometimes talking live on the lunchtime gig at 12pm till 2pm, sometimes talking on the BRACS show at 2pm till 4pm, also doing weekend shows on a saturday with totally fresh from 8am till 12pm or party mix at 8pm till 12am.

I come from the Tiwi Islands just above Darwin. There are two islands Melville and Bathurst. I live on Melville island in a little community called Pularumpi or also known as Garden Point. I’ve grown up there my whole life and i love it! the environment there is great with lovely beaches and waterhole. It is hard living a long way from home but it is a good experience living in a different environment. Working at CAAMA is also part of the experience and i really enjoy working and studying here.

I have a big family that lives everywhere around Australia. Originally my grandfather came from Pulumpa next to Port Keats and my Grandmother came from Thursday Islandin the Torres Straight, but because of the stolen generation they both got taken to Pularumpi. My grandmother is also named Thecla and that’s where I got my name from and my Grandfathers name is Peter. My grandmother past away in 1998 though. Thecla is a greek name but my Nana wasn’t greek but Brogan comes from Scotland and my great-grandfather was Scotish.

I have Aboriginal/Australian,  Scotish, Philipino, Sri Lankan, Chinese and Irish blood in me which i think is pretty awesome because one day i want to learn about these different cultures.

So thats all I can tell about me today…

Who is Nooks?

Werte,

Hello, I’m Minungka McInerney or better known as Nooksy on the CAAMA air waves.  Currently I’m studying  Certificate IV in Screen and Media and working for CAAMA as a Radio News Journalist and Broadcaster.

Besides working on news stories, I also produce and announce the Saturday night party mix show and do a tiny bit of comedy and live interviews on the program. Sometimes I fill in shows for work staff who are sick and I also monitor AFL games off the satelite straight to our live broadcast.

Every day I put up the news on our internet site and do alot of research, monitoring, announcing and communicating through out each week as a radio broadcaster.

Who is Denella?

Certificate IV in Screen and Media

Hello, my name is Denella and I am the Sales & Marketing Rep/Broadcaster here at CAAMA Radio. I have cert lll in Broadcasting (Radio) and I am currently enrolled in Cert IV in screen & media and have almost completed my Cert IV in TAA. I have been involved with media for the last 10 years of my life. I started out in print, then moved to television and now in radio. The biggest highlight of my career has been this year in 2009, when I Interviewed The Black Eyed Peas & Akon. These artists where unbelievable and truely down to earth. I love my job here at CAAMA as I get to meet great artists and it involves many different tasks, including language production & recordings. Working in media over the years has been a real advantage to me as it has made me overcome an issue that I had with feeling shame. My interest was sparked in media, when I visited my Dad as a child who at that time worked at Umeewarra Media. In signing off I would like to say always Believe in Yourself , Live Proud and Laugh Lots.

Caamarocks can now take audio files as attachments to posts, so that students can put soundfiles up for their evidence portfolio as soon as they are done. As a sample I have put up this brilliant bit of indigenous hip hop, the voice might be familiar!

This week and last week at CAAMA I loaded mostly country and blues songs onto the system. Also I recorded Gmans drive time shows for the afternoon on weekdays form 4-8 while he was away in Tamworth for the country music awards. I really enjoyed doing his show and he told me he was happy with what I did because I had a positive voice. I have also been doing my shows on saturday and sunday from 4-8 in the afternoons. This week has been a bit hard because school has kicked in and I have a lot happening right now catching up with school work and getting used to year 11 work. But everything has been working out nicely.
